Since 1991 Logan Capital Corporation has assisted in the arrangement of debt and equity for over fifty alternative energy financings totaling more than $1.5 billion. Most of the fifty-plus transactions have been nonrecourse project financings, as investors and lenders primarily look to each project's cash flows or tax benefits to achieve their returns, and do not look to a "full-faith-and-credit" guarantee from the developer, project owner, or site host. For two projects Logan Capital itself provided substantial bridge loans and received all principal and interest on such loans once the permanent financing was completed. Many of the projects have qualified for federal and state tax credits including Section 29 tax credits for landfill gas projects. Don Logan has also participated in projects involving Section 29 tax credits for synthetic fuel (synfuel) projects.
Today, Section 45 tax credits are available for existing biomass projects, and new projects using wind, solar, geothermal, biomass, municipal solid waste, landfill gas, and refined coal. Don Logan has arranged financing for all of these fuel sources and he has recently participated as a principal in monetizing the Section 45 tax credits associated with a landfill gas electric generation project.
